Several months ago I connected with this beautiful and sweet mama, Alix. She was pregnant with her second child and we always had the nicest interactions. Then I discovered that she is a total #momboss with an Etsy shop for her adorable peg doll creations. She is so talented and I’m thrilled to feature Pegs n’ Things for my Small Shop Spotlight!
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself (family, interests, hobbies, etc).
I moved around a bit when I was little, but grew up in Gilbert, Arizona and am the oldest of 3 kids. My husband Jake and I met our junior year of high school and we started dating towards the end of the school year. After we graduated from high school, I went off to college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah to study US History, and Jake served a two year mission for our church in Mexico City, Mexico. We were married 6 months after he got home and now, 4 years later, we have two kids. Lucas is 2 1/2 years old and Emery is almost 4 months.

When I’m not painting and taking care of my kiddos, I like to read, binge watch tv, watch movies, and shop. I love Mexican food and pretty much everything that’s bad for you: ice cream, donuts, chocolate, etc.
2. When did you open your shop and why?
I’ve always loved craft stores. I could just wander around a craft store for hours looking at paints, wood, paper, etc. I don’t know what it is, but I love looking at craft supplies. The thing is, I’ve never really been the creative type.
When I was younger, my mom saw the potential in me to be an artist, but like other things in my life, I didn’t follow through with practice and perfection. My sister is an amazing artist, and I’ve always been jealous of her talent.
Some time in the early months of 2015, I became fascinated with these little hand-painted toys that I found on Instagram. I learned they were called “peg dolls”. They were adorable and I thought that someday I should attempt to paint some for my son. Finally, in August 2015, I painted Daniel Tiger and Katerina Kitty. They turned out better than I expected and I received lots of comments and encouragement to open my own peg doll shop.
Long story short, Pegs n’ Things was born in September 2015. I love painting and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me!
3. What or who inspires you?
I’m inspired every day by so many amazing mompreneurs who are successfully running their businesses while still rocking motherhood. I don’t know how they do it, but someday I hope to learn their secret and balance both jobs more easily.
4. What’s the best part about being a small shop owner?
The best thing about being a small shop owner is being able to do something I love on my own time, while staying home with my kids. Plus I love having a little extra money to spend on things I want. 😁
5. Do you have a favorite peg creation (don’t worry, we won’t tell the others 😉)?
That’s a tough question! Every time I create a new character, it becomes my favorite. Right now I think my favorite is my Star Wars droid set. They turned out amazing! I’m always surprising myself with my artistic abilities I never knew were there before last year.
I don’t know about you, but I sure am glad Alix tapped into her creativity and talent. Mothers know best right?😊
Alix is a true professional with not only a fantastic product but a kind spirit. Visit her shop, and be sure to stay up to date with her on Instagram and Facebook.
What peg creation would you choose?
*Disclaimer: Some of these items were received free for my review but my love for them is 100% honest and true.*
