Last weekend was full of fun. Not only was it Mother’s Day, but May 8th was also my husband and I’s 6th wedding anniversary!
I knew he had a few things up his sleeve to celebrate my role as a mom, so I decided to plan something special for him as we celebrated our love. We discussed a getaway, but agreed that the timing wasn’t quite right. Still, it was important to us to have that quality alone time, so I got a bit sneaky and set up a special night at the Courtyard Marriott in Phenix City. I’d heard wonderful things about this particular location, especially the riverfront view that was available from some of the rooms.
It was fun watching my husband’s curiosity heighten as the weekend went on, but it was no easy feat packing behind his back! It was well worth it though, because he was genuinely surprised. We circled the lobby before heading to our room, and we were both impressed with the friendly customer service and decor.
The moment we stepped into our room we dropped our stuff and let out a huge exhalation. Sometimes you don’t even realize how much you need something until you’re in it, and we knew we needed this. We were very relaxed and felt quite comfortable in the space. The colors were soothing, the furniture was cozy, and the few additional perks that came with the romance package I opted to include were the cherry on top.
As tempting as it was to lounge in front of the T.V. and actually watch a show uninterrupted, lol, our stomachs weren’t on the same page. We decided to go to a local restaurant downtown, and I don’t think we realized how close we were. It was a quick 5 minute drive, and as with our previous experience at The Cannon Brewpub, the food was delicious! I agreed to let my hubby eat his meatloaf in peace, but my ‘Going Greek’ pizza was yummy!
After dinner we walked around and grabbed some gelato. Then we headed back to the Marriott and decided to walk along the river to take in a closer view of the one we had from our room. We talked and laughed and the weather was absolutely perfect.
Due to the scheduling of Mother’s Day activities, we stayed on Sunday and had to get up and head to work on Monday. Honestly, it was a great way to start the week as we were feeling so refreshed.
We enjoyed a tasty breakfast together at their Bistro restaurant, and I finally got to show my hubby the new hoodie I purchased for the occasion.
Proud Wife hoodie available at Union 28 Marriage Apparel.
It was wonderful to show my appreciation for my man in this way, and to know that a week later he was still talking about how much he enjoyed it and wanted to to it again was the best reward for me!!
Is anyone else celebrating a May anniversary? How do you and your spouse like to celebrate your love? I’d love to hear some ideas so I can start planning for next year! 😉
