Dear Husband, I See You


My first post for Motherhood Inspired went live today. Here is just a snippet of the heartfelt letter I wrote to my husband, reminding him that I see him too.

I will never forget that moment.

It was the moment that I looked at you in the stairwell of that parking garage outside the movie theater, and knew that in spite of the rocky road that led us to this point, it was all behind us. You would be mine, and I would be yours.

I saw you then.

A couple months later we were horseback riding on the beach, and you hopped off your horse to ask me the question that would forever change the course of our lives. I said yes, and while your hand slightly trembled as you placed the ring on my finger, the happiest of tears welled up in both of our eyes.

I saw you then.

A short time after that we said ‘I do’. Twice. First in a private ceremony in our pastor’s home, then at our wedding before family and friends. When you held my hands I let out a deep exhalation, and settled into the knowing that this would be forever.

I saw you then.

When our first daughter was born you swung open the doors to that operating room and your eyes were fixed on me. Deeply, intently, full of love and relief. Our baby was here safe and sound and we felt unparalleled joy. But the first thing you did was check on me, your wife, and the crinkled lines of worry on your face softened and disappeared.

I saw you then.

Life as new parents brought an entirely new dynamic to our relationship. Sleep deprivation heightened the frustrations, and the magnitude of our new roles weighed heavy on our hearts….
