I’m excited to bring you a very special edition of Small Shop Spotlight. Instagram has connected me to some very special people, and my sweet friend Taylor is sharing about her shop, new products, and her incredible testimony!
Read about what the Lord has done in her life, and learn more about the inspiration behind her store, Taylored Made. Here’s what she had to say.❤️
My name is Taylor; I am single mother to my son Jones. We live in the same small town I grew up in outside of Dallas, Texas. I just recently graduated with my Masters of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas. I have the most amazing family, and am the oldest girl in a family of five children.
I am a recovering drug addict and will be sober eight years this April. Due to an accidental overdose I almost lost my life. According to doctors I should not be alive and certainly not with a fully functioning brain (depending on who you ask that might be debatable 😉). I am thankful, and I believe in an almighty God who is capable of proving doctors wrong.
I love camping, and in fact, one of my dreams is to refurbish a camper myself and take my son camping all over the good ‘Ol US of A! I hate to cook but I love to eat! I enjoy reading and researching but I am terrible at spelling and grammar. I have only ever had one boyfriend and he is my son’s biological father. We were together almost nine years, but split up right before I found out I was expecting my son due to his on going battle with addiction and mental illness. Due to his battle with mental illness I have a special place in my heart for anyone who has been affected by the disease and would love to find a way to help others going through similar situations.
I believe I have been given more grace than I could ever deserve. I am thankful for each and every second I get to spend with my sweet boy. Through all my ups and downs there are a few things that have kept me grounded. That is my faith that there is a God who is constantly working for my good, and the idea that living intentionally is the constant pursuit of what sets my soul on fire.
I originally opened my Etsy shop Taylored Made about five years ago. I started out selling tie-dye t-shirts and onesies! I closed it due to a lack of sales, but then reopened it about ten months ago! I am a perfectionist and when it came time to decorating my sons nursery I knew nobody could make what I had envisioned so I made everything myself. I wanted tons of hand painted arrows throughout his room so my sister decided to incorporate that into a craft at my baby shower! They turned out pretty cute, but for my vision to play out I needed more, so I started working on some myself. After my son was born people started to come visit and were pretty impressed with the arrows I had painted and a few even asked if I would sell them some. I decided if they were willing to pay for them they must not be half bad! I reopened my Etsy store and within the first week had my first few sales!
I love that my shop is full of pieces I originally created for myself, or pieces I’ve created for friends and loved ones. My arrows are certainly one of my favorites because it reminds me of my little bear and the time I spent designing and creating his room. That being said, my newest venture into T-shirts has a special place in my heart as well! ‘Gentle Spirit Kind Heart’ is something I have prayed over my son from the moment I knew he existed. I knew from the very beginning I would be raising him alone and my main goal is to raise a man who values honesty and compassion over popularity and success. A gentle spirit and kind heart is more than a cute saying it’s a way of life and a simple prayer from one momma trying to raise a boy into a good man in this broken world we live in.
I am constantly working on new things; some make it to the shop, and others are given as gifts before I can take decent photos! My newest addition is my ‘Gentle Spirit Kind Hearts’ shirts and hoping if they do well to try out a few more designs I have been working on. I love my shop because it gives me a creative outlet. I tend to think too much and having a way to keep my mind busy while creating something beautiful makes me happy! I hope one day to be able to support myself fully with my shop but for now it is a nice bonus while I work part time for my father and look for work as a full time librarian!
I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling so encouraged! Nothing compares to God’s grace, and it takes great faith to step out and try something new!
As a thank you to my readers, Taylor is offering a special discount code. Use ‘MINISTERMOM20’ through next Friday, March 4th, on her entire shop! Keep up with all her latest news on Instagram, and swing by my feed to check out more great shops!
Thank you all for your continued support and for taking the time to read this! Have a wonderful day and remember,
EMBRACE HIS GRACE,
