As the summer winds down I like looking back at some of our more memorable moments. It wasn’t all fun and games, and in fact, I struggled quite a bit with my own patience and the constant bickering between my girls. However, the sweetest things happened when we were all together and I am going to miss having them home. At least some days. 😉
I have one child who is very nervous to start school for the first time, so I’ve been trying to think of ways to make the transition as smooth as possible.
One of our favorite traditions was having a movie night so I’ve promised to continue that throughout the school year as well. They love movies like their mama, and it gives them something to look forward to. We can cuddle up on the couch together, or, thanks to 3M we can treat ourselves to a movie in the theater!

It’s the end of summer vacation and I find myself once again asking, “where did the time go?” These months seem to fly by faster and faster with each passing year, but for me there is one distinct difference that sets this upcoming school year apart.
Instead of one child in school full-time, I’ll have two! Woohoo!!
My sweet Lily is going to be in Pre-K, right across the hall from her big sissy’s 2nd grade class!
We have some nerves as well as excitement over here, but as I plan for us to get back into a solid routine, the question of school lunch always comes into play.

We moved to a new neighborhood over the summer which meant my daughter would be starting 1st grade at a new school. I always hear about how resilient children are, and while I believe that to be true in most cases I was nervous about the change for her.
Would the school be a good fit?
How would she like her teacher?
Would she make new friends?
Would she feel confident and comfortable?
These thoughts and more ran through my mind, but the worries and concerns quickly faded. In no time she was raving about her new school, her friends and how much fun she was having while learning.
In the midst of the changes it’s been great for her to express herself through her back to school style. We did lots of shopping at OshKosh B’goshthis year, and couldn’t be happier with what she selected!

As the end of last school year approached, I dreamt of adventures galore. No more drop-off and pick-up lines. No more battle of the wills as I went back and forth with my daughter in the mornings. It would be glorious!!
And then reality set in.
The truth is I was in my last trimester of pregnancy and utterly exhausted. We had just moved, my girls were exhibiting lots of “testing” behavior due to all the transitions, and I was constantly torn between my desire to get out with them and simply wanting to nest and rest.
All in all we made the most of it and everyone had a good time. Of course the highlight was welcoming our baby girl, and school started a couple weeks later.
Honestly, this mama rejoiced! I absolutely, positively miss my big girl when she’s in school, but her going back has helped me find more of a rhythm (definitely still working on that), and if I’m lucky I can spend a little time during the day celebrating with my new favorite kind of bubbly!

What happened to summer vacation? We are just a few days away from the new school year, and whether you’re holding onto to these last moments of freedom and fun, or counting down until your kiddos get back to their regular studies, preparations must be made!
I’m feeling pretty good about the fact that I’ve already purchased the school supplies my daughter will need, but there’s a major part of the process I really want to better plan for.
My child will continue to bring food from home like she did last year, but thanks to Sistema® I’ll be able to stay organized while preparing quick, healthy meals.Read More
